really the gap between the campaign rhetoric and what the obama administration's actual policy was in iraq because you have to ask yourself the question, what does it mean to end a war? and it's lot more than simply removing troops and actually, when president obama approached iraq, he, himself, and his team, thought it entailed a lot more than removing troops them tried create a power-sharing arrangement in iraq. tried to negotiate a sofa which initially -- >> status of forces agreement of when to remove troops. >> would have allowed initially as many as 10,000 american troops to stay and they also tried to work out an arrangement where there would be a fairly substantial civilian/american footprint to maintain our influence there and none of those things really happened. what happened is the troops left. >> tom, on afghanistan as well, the idea of when troops come out there's agreement about 2014 but i think what michael's speaking to the idea that troops coming home doesn't mean that the issues are settled and there's war weariness in america but what it's level of responsib
these documents appear to be genuine supporting a growing body of evidence indicating the obama administration tried to withhold pertinent facts about the 9/11 anniversary attack from congress and the american people. i know a little confusing for you, not because two prominent congressman are saying it or scores of angry top intelligence officials are going off the record, some now on the record discussing it. not because they have been all over it, but because tonight the main street media finally stop ignoring it. don't look now but five days out ahead of the elections the issues the white house wanted to keep a lid on it might have blown up in its face. to the effort mentioned jennifer griffin on what this means and what now. >> i have seen some e-mail traffic suggesting the great frustration of senior count counterterrorism claim it was counterterrorism security group was not called. investor chris stevens was missing for nearly six hours. they did not know where the investor was or whether it was a hostage situation for more than six hours and they still decided the top levels of the oba
the obama administration handled its response to the deadly terror attack on the consulate in libya. a growing chorus for a new committee to investigate exactly what happened as fox news has exclusive information that the consulate considered suspending his operations in benghazi as the security deteriorated and considered actually moving it all to the c.i.a. annex. molly henneberg is live in washington with more. >> molly: information in the form of a classified cable reviewed by fox, sent to the state department about one month before the attack. including both of those contingency plans you just listed and telling washington that the security situation is, quote, trending negatively and voicing concern over approximately ten islamic militias and al-qaeda training camps known to operate within benghazi. one republican congresswoman says the obama administration didn't pay enough attention to those warnings. >> this explains why they were talking about a spontaneous demonstration. why the administration was blaming it on a video. if they knew if the word gotten out they had been ex
cain. remember in 2008 when john mccain stood up to the people who thought president obama administration was a muslim. >> no, man. he is not. thank you. thank you. [ applause ] >> jennifer: john mccain earned a lot of respect for standing up and being honest. mitt romney remains silent. silence in the face of these kind of comments is unacceptable. there's a saying that goes not to speak is to speak. not to act is to act. joining me from washington to discuss the republican's race to the bottom is democratic strategist and syndicated columnist karl frisch, and coming to us from boston is charlie pierce, contributing editor of "esquire" magazine. both of you gentlemen welcome back inside "the war room." >> good evening, governor. >> hello, governor. how are you? >> jennifer: i am great. charlie let me start with you. how it is that mitt romney can continue to affiliation himself with people who make inane comments like those. >> first of all the jesuate fathers thought me [ inaudible ] he is silent gives consent. why has he gotten away with it -- >> jennifer: why hasn't h
talking auto thing, you realize obama administration gave chrysler to fiat for zero dollars? i mean, you can't imagine a businessman like mitt romney turning over that much real property to a foreign company for zero dollars. so owe think the longer you look at the auto bailout the less attractive it s romney's approach was to guarantee loans and waivers after a traditional bankruptcy court, what united airlines and a number other companies have gone through. that i think people goring to say that might have been a better road. >> that is sort of the global view talking about jobs in ohio. you know? you don't necessarily look at the big tick pic tour, looks like do i have a job or not? >> the governor pointed out the net number of new jobs out of the bailout was 400 for the state. all other new jobs and if you're a gm worker are you grateful to obama? do you think you've worked hard so your company survived? at some point obama claiming credit for your job begins to get thin. >> greta: benghazi. we've spent a lot of time talking about it. and frankly there are a lot of remaining question

news also asked the folks if the obama administration has tried to mislead americans about the attacks on libya. 44% say yes. 47% say no. full-timably president obama's hand links of libya. 47% approve. 47% disprove. much of the mainstream libya has covered the president over libya and the issue has not gained big time traction. fox news correspondent catherine herridge reports she reviewed a cable sent why by the u.s. mission to the secretary of state hillary clinton on august 16th. it went to mrs. clinton's office. it stated americans in benghazi did not believe the consulate could be defended against a coordinated attack. of course on 9/11 there were coordinated terrorist attacks that killed ambassador christopher stevens and three other americans. it is clear the obama administration was warned and did nothing. that's a pretty big story and the press has ignored it saying over and over again his administration is investigating. here is a flash. the fox news investigative team has uncovered far more about libya than the obama administration has. which is kind of interesting, don't y
there is either an obama administration for a second time or a new mitt romney administration. and we'll have a very brief period for a very polarized congress to try to come up with some sort of a solution to the fiscal cliff. now i think both sides want it to happen, however, there is, there has been some stubbornness on the part of both sides on some very key issues and the fiscal cliff would represent a departure in the gdp. we could actually end up seeing gdp growth, closer to zero and that's going to show up in jobs numbers. jenna: that is good context for us because whoever wins the election next week on tuesday that same congress is returning and that same congress will have to deal with some very big problems we have ahead for us in the country over next couple months. great to see you again. >> thanks very much for having me. jon: well, recovery from superstorm sandy has an additional component now. the ongoing search for gasoline in new york and new jersey. patience also in short supply across that region as drivers who actually can find a gas station open have to deal with lines l
not help save those people. >> greta: congressman, thank you sir. so, is the obama administration deliberately stonewalling about libya? as we said a group of seniors is demanding answers today. senator john powell joins us? >> good evening, greta. >> greta: released seven letters from senator mccain and lindsay graham. they don't get answered. they were going over a period of time. are these letters sort of futile zwres to your or something happen from them? >> no, i've read the letters they ask the precisely the right questions. first of all, katherine heritage has done good reporting on day from one. david ignasius and he complimented fox news for raising these important questions. he listed a group of questions. some of which you raised here. he also says the time line of events should be provided before the election, not after the election. if i could make that point right now, you have so many questions about the commander in chief and what he did or what he didn't do. whether his orders were clear that this has to be cleared up before the election. so we the people that emp
. >> eric: keep that sound bite in mind. today we learn secret e-mails sent to obama administration specifically the state department to suggest consulate in benghazi was in imminent danger to refute the white house claims that "a," they weren't forewarned. thanks to the president, no. thanks to the republican senator lindsey graham. why has it take son long to get to this guy? a republican senator to do what the commander in chief should have done weeks ago? i have to start with you. >> bob: do you have to? >> eric: i have to. bret baier warned us last night and he said you will start to see a lot of new information coming out day after day. >> bob: i'll assume we won't do the story on wednesday. >> greg: i'll make sure we do it. >> eric: the c.i.a. pushed back. the ambassador and his aide died within an hour of this attack. nobody could have gotten there to save him. there were no military people on the ground. c.i.a. agents on the ground. c.i.a. pushed back twice today saying they were moving to help them. there is a lot of information here. did they handle it right? no. they han
the administration so quick to lie yes, lie and repeatedly because this cable shows that the obama administration had been warned explicitly in a detailed way that the security situation in benghazi deteriorating rapidly and that the personnel there could nolt with stand a coordinating attack. and the cable points out there were 10-15 training catches was islamic militants training nearby the consulate and that the security personnel there had requested additional help and a request turned down once and again, and again. and so this cable is disturbing. it shows that the administration had been told. we do not have enough personnel to with strand a coordinated attack. we have extremist nearby . we are requesting additional help and yet what we got from the administration time and again, no help for the people in benghazi, and lying to the american public and this explains why they were talking about a spontanous demonstration and why the administration was blaming it on a video. because they knew that if the word got out that they were explicitly warned one month before the emergency meeting and the
. the idea that a company goes bankrupt and disappear is a fiction that the obama administration would like you to believe. airlines and companies go bankrupt and restructure the loans and get lean yer taxpayers are off of the hook and everybody is happy and get better cars. a lot of mom and pops called it theft. the real fiction here. yes, it is true a company can go in bankruptcy and emerge. real life was gm-chrysler didn't have enough money to pay suppliers or employees, and by the time the government could have negotiated guaranteed with anybody that might step up to make a loan, those companies were out of the business. it is reality and he's showing why republicans never say i am sorry. it is ridiculous. >> steve, is rick right, that bankings were so bad shape they would have gone in bankruptcy and no one would have lent them money. >> in the fall of the 2008 there was a panic on government guarantees. but general motors and chrysler should have gone in controrsey. equity funds would be willing to get the assets. bankrupt nation and equity funds in greece are saying this is low price
there by the obama administration you would think that six weeks after the attack some kind of clarity could be put forth by the president he doesn't have to do it because the press is not pushing him. brian williams, one of the few journalists mr. obama is talking with, had a chance to ask him some tough questions, mr. williams passed. >> the assessment of your intelligence community as we stand here is that it was a spontaneous terrorist attack. were you happy with what you were able to learn as it unfolded? it went on for several hours. >> well, as i have said, brian, we're going to do a full investigation, obviously when four americans are killed, you know, you have to do some soul searches in terms of making sure that all our systems are where they need to be. and that's what we're going to find out. but, who what i'm confident about is that we will be able to figure out who perpetrated this act and bring them to justice and we are confident that we have the cooperation of the libyan government. >> bill: that is the same answer the president has given for weeks. nothing new. instead of citing
it in a safer, cleaner way than they are, but the obama administration put the just say no to coal. that cuts out half of the present source of electrical power in the country. tell me how a country can grow, a country that grows and a country that needs more energy. you tell me how this country can have hybrid vehicles that are pugged into the wall if we don't provide more electricity. i mean, this is like living in some kind of fantasy land. this great wonderful hybrid vehicles have got to get pluggedded into the wall. if we had hybrid vehicles driving around the country, we need 35% more electricity. well, we're on a -- we are on a path to less electricity, not more. 50% is gone. that's going to keep going down because we put a stop on coal. okay, where else do we get electricity from? well, we get it from nuclear power. nuclear, we have 104 nuclear power plants. they supply anywhere from 20%-25% of the electricity. in my city, it's 25%. nuclear power, we have not licensed a nuclear power plant other than one in the last 30 years. the others are getting real old, and there's no appetite on
reorganized fema under the obama administration. >> i'd like to point out fethat mayor bloomberg didn't say it was only on the issue of climate change. he mentioned reproductive rights and pro choice and i think there was another issue.s this was a reason -- he pointed out that governor romney had taken reasonable positions in the past, which he -d apparently abandoned. >> this is an excellent point. it was also, you know, a rejection of romney. >> who cares? >> who cares about the mayor of new york? he's a big deal in new york, nationally, chris christie is better known. august -- all bloomberg is known for is the >> okay. where's mitt? >> at a subsequent interview, the governor took a question from fox reporter steve doocy. >> is there any possibility that governor romney may go to new jersey to tour some of the damage with you? >> i have ea, nor am i the least bit concerned or interested. >> what do you make of that? >> that's a backhand to mitt romney. that was, and it's very tough, quite frankly, it's gratuitous, and that will damage chris christie if he runs for president. and he's b
the start of the obama administration, the two parties have been at war about the wisdom, legality and practicality of the affordable care act. what's next when it comes to healthcare? maria hinojosa of need to know has that. >> it's been two and a half years since congress passed the president's controversial affordable care act and four months since the supreme court upheld the heart of the legislation. but most of the bill, which eventually might insure another 30 million people, actually doesn't go into effect until 2014. whether it ever does will depend on what happens next tuesday and not just in the presidential race. >> what the court did not do on it's last day in session, i will do on my first day if elected president of the united states and that is i will act to repeal obamacare. >> mitt romney has said again and again he will get rid of obamacare as soon as he takes office. whether he can might be another story. >> it'd be pretty difficult for him to actually repeal the healthcare law within 24 hours. he would need to go to congress and we'd still have to wait and see
the obama administration tried to mislead americans about the terror attack in libya. 44% say yes, 47% say no. >> the american people deserve the truth. >> four republican senators today fired off a letter to the president, demanding to know, "what steps you and your administration took or failed to take before, during and after the terrorist attack to protect american lives." >> they are stonewalling us. i think they are trying to run out the clock until this election. >> republican lindsey graham today sent a separate letter to tunisian officials requesting they give the u.s. government access to al harzi, the only person in custody over the benghazi attack. >> i frankly am offended by the administration not being honest with the american people. and sharing any information with congress. >> senator gram told me that tunisian government responded he could submit questions in writing to the suspect and they would try to get answers. he said it's not good enough. he got tunisian foreign minister on the phone and graham vowed he would put pressure on the tunisian government and is call tong
state of ohio where president obama has spent a lot of time talking about how his administration saved detroit. but thousands of employees for auto parts maker delphi may disagree, and their dissatisfaction could be key in a razor-thin race. steve brown has an update from dayton, ohio. steve. >> behind me is the last operating delphi factory here in dayton. it used to employ 25,000 in this area now 300. back in 09 when gm was getting bailed out delphi was going through bankruptcy and there were lots of employees salaried and union who were asking nervous questions about their pensions. >> how is our healthcare looking after retirement? how is our pension looking? everything is good. pension plan is well funded. >> we were told that everything was secure in your pension, and you plan on that for the rest of your life. >> until like its dayton area plants delphi shut down the employee pension plans handing them off to the federal government. >> when my pension went from 2,500 $50 a month guaranteed to the federal government saying you'll get $385 a month. >> and you spend years and years
. has been six weeks and the obama administration is either stone walling or dragging its feet to tell the american people exactly what happened. former u.n. ambassador john bolton says the obama administration has given one excuse after another. he joins us. good evening, sir. >> good evening, greta jet not the only giving excuses but some throwing under the bus with the cia director saying we are not the ones who denied the order and panetta is also backing off this. >> two things. one that west brought out earlier. reporting by fox news that says that the cia gave orders not to assist personal at the consulate and denied request for assistance from its own station there in benghazi. and then general petraeus' spokesman issues a statement saying the cia didn't deny the requests which clearly implies somebody else is did. i will come back to that in a moment. jason chaffetz just said on sean hannity's show in his trip to libya he traveled with general carter hamm and said that general hamm told him nobody asked him to deploy military forces to benghazi. now, secretary pa pe panetta sd
by the geithner people under the obama administration. but it was a remarkable thing to hear. because who could really believe that other than people who had come from these institutions. and my response, of course, is "where have you been for the last couple of years? what rock have you been under, that you haven't seen that these guys would sell their soul for a few basis points of guofit?" that ideas like they wouldn't risk their reputations or wouldn't embarrass themselves again, as bill dudley, the president of the new york fed said to me when i complained about relyi too heavily on credit-rating agencies. this was the core ideology and approach of how they viewed the financial crisis. it wasn't the bank's fault. and if we could just trust them, we'll be in a good place again.a >> and yet, there haven't been prosecutions have there, of these -- the people culpable for this crash? >> no, mean, what our office did was to detect, prosecute, investigate, and refer for prosecution those who tried to steal from the program. so we were blocked out of any activities that occurred before tarp. bec
three are hiring again. yesterday in defiance, ohio, mitt romney gave that obama administration success story a little mitt romney esque tickle. >> i saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, now owned by the italians, is thinking of moving all production to china. >> wow. mr. romney saying, hey, don't get too comfy there, ohio, with the obama rescue of the automotive industry. i know it's been better. he saved everything here and that's why you have jobs and everything, but don't get too comfy, ohio, i read that they're moving all the jobs working for jeep. they're moving all the jeep jobs to china. he said that in ohio on the campaign trail 12 days before the election. and it is not true at all. the real jeep news that day was actually that chrysler announced it was adding 1100 new jobs in the u.s. here. making jeeps in detroit. jeep grand cherokees. and chrysler says it could hire almost as many people at another plant in warren, michigan. in ohio crisler is investing half a billion dollars in its toledo plant and hiring 1100 workers. but mitt romney got up
for work altogether. how does the obama administration respond to that number at a time when people are hurting? >> that number is misleading, what we're actually seeing is consumers confidence is at the highest level in four years, what that means is that bob jones in toledo is seeing something that joe smith at goldman sachs might not be, that the job numbers, pretty good 171,000 new jobs what you said, and again, it's growing and the small up tick in the unemployment rate is actually a different measure and pretty insubstantial. >> angela, we have one out of six people living in poverty. >> yes. >> and that's a sobering number here in 2012 when many people expect that we should be doing much better than that and people shouldn't have to be suffering in such a way. >> uma, after 814 billion dollars stimulus package after a 26 billion dollar stimulus package was supposed to create jobs and then the auto bailout and then we've had solyndra, so much money has been wasted and the president when he started, i cannot cut the deficit. if i cannot bring more prosperity to america then it'
